August 2020

Walks by the sea, barbecues in the garden, and reading by the pool: summer is the perfect season outdoors. However, it would be best to protect yourself from the risks to eye health that typical summer activities involve.

To help you protect your sight and enjoy your time outdoors, we have compiled some tips for healthy eyesight in the summer, especially for those who wear contact lenses.

Protect your eyes from the sun

UV rays are not only harmful to the skin but also the eyes. Don’t let your guard down even on cloudy days, as solar radiation (in the form of UVA and UVB rays) can also make its way through clouds. Don’t worry. Our advice is not to spend the whole summer indoors: luckily, there are brands of contact lenses with integrated UV filters designed to prevent harmful rays from reaching your eyes. Just combine them with your favorite pair of sunglasses, and your eyes will be safe!

If you want to upgrade to UV filtered contact lenses, we recommend trying the ACUVUE 2 monthly disposable contact lenses. You can get affordable contact lens price in Pakistan from many websites such as Ainak.pk, Lenses.com.pk or contactlens.pk

Swim safely with contact lenses

There’s nothing like a nice dip in the water on a hot summer day. Yeah, but first, take off your contact lenses. By swimming with lenses, you risk that the water contaminates the surface with infectious bacteria for the eyes. The lenses also risk deforming and becoming uncomfortable.

If you want to go for a swim while maintaining a clear vision, we recommend using disposable daily lenses and combining them with swimming goggles. Practical and hygienic, the daily lenses are disposable, which means they can be thrown away immediately after bathing. Then, just put on a new pair, and you’ll be back to enjoying a 100% accurate and safe view. Another option is to wear graduated swimming goggles, but remember to upgrade your lenses if your prescription changes.

Wear lenses for physical activity

Oh no, nobody wants to interrupt a hectic tennis match to adjust their glasses. Contact lenses are undoubtedly more comfortable for physical activity, as they allow you to enjoy complete freedom of movement without giving distractions. They are also easy to combine with a helmet and sunglasses when cycling, or a cap when jogging.

If you don’t want to give up your glasses, but still want to enjoy the benefits of contact lenses for sports, we recommend (again) to switch to disposable daily contact lenses. You wear a fresh new pair every day, and you can change them with glasses whenever you like. Colored contact lenses such as Freshlook, Dahab or Bella lenses in Pakistan that you can find at affordable rates with premium quality, can also be a great option.

Don’t fall asleep with contact lenses

Who doesn’t love a summer siesta? Falling asleep on the beach may sound relaxing, but it can cause dry eyes and other annoying ailments. While you won’t feel these effects after a nap or two, it’s important not to get into the habit of falling asleep with contact lenses.

If you’ve ever slept with lenses before, you know how difficult it can be to remove them when you wake up. But there’s no reason to fret: if it happens, blink a couple of times or apply eye drops that restore moisture to the lenses. You can also try gently massaging your eyelids and drinking a glass of water (as it helps to moisten the eyes).

Choose a comfortable travel package

If you carry reusable contact lenses (i.e., fortnightly or monthly ) and plan a vacation, bring travel solutions for cleaning your lenses with you. Even if you are traveling by plane, you can easily take them with you in your hand luggage, as they comply with airport regulations on liquids.
